Here's an oldie but a goodie.

I came across a user this week with a Quicksilver G4 running OS9.2.2. She reported a long freeze during start-up of her machine so I had a look. Indeed, it was taking two minutes and twenty seconds from pressing the power button to being useable. There was a long delay from the desktop appearing to the mouse moving. Disabling Appleshare in extensions manager caused the unit to operate normally.

Inside the OS9 System Folder is a Servers folder. Delete the contents of this folder to get Appleshare back up to speed. Doing this on this particular machine halved the startup time to one minute and ten seconds.
